There’s currently an online petition to have classic Star Wars villain Darth Vader appear as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 11. Ever since its 2011 reboot, NetherRealm Studios’s signature fighting franchise has been no stranger to guest appearances from popular films and comic books.

From silver screen killers like Jason Voorhees and the Predator to icons of the printed page like the Joker and Spawn, famous characters from all over the media multiverse have taken to the MK area to test their might against Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Even before the reboot, there was Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, an entire crossover game featuring heroes such as Batman and Superman in combat with the warriors of Earthrealm, albeit in a T-Rated manner toned down from the franchise’s infamous blood and gore.

Fan Mason Carr started the Darth Vader in Mortal Kombat 11 petition with hopes that the Dark Lord of the Sith could show up as one of the two yet-unconfirmed DLC characters in the game’s Fighter Pack II add-on, and at least 14 people have signed so far.Carr’s petition, available to sign on Change.org, aims to add the iconic Darth Vader to that list. He also suggests a possible Arcade Mode ending for the Sith Lord before ending the petition by wondering if past Vader actors Matt Sloan, Scott Lawrence, or James Earl Jones could voice the character for his hypothetical turn in MK 11.

Naturally, the former Anakin Skywalker has made plenty of appearances in the realm of Star Wars video games. He’s served as the final boss in The Force Unleashed and its sequel, made a surprise showing in this year’s Jedi: Fallen Order, and was a bonus playable character in everything from the Lego Star Wars series to the ill-remembered fighting game, Masters of Teras Kasi. As Carr himself points out, there are two factors that would prevent Vader from taking his lightsaber to the Mortal Kombat Tournament: the fact that the series is currently owned by Disney’s primary competitor, Warner Brothers, and Disney’s possible reluctance to license one of its most prominent characters to a game as notoriously M-Rated as Mortal Kombat.

Still, Disney has lent its characters to Warner-owned games before (the Marvel-themed Lego titles), and Vader would indeed be a good fit for the series. The Dark Lord isn’t exactly squeamish about killing his foes – after all, he’s willingly massacred young children and cut down entire hallways of Rebel soldiers like a harvester of death – and his mighty Force powers and ever-lethal lightsaber could make for some fun moves and Fatalities. Plus, there would be the novelty of him facing off against the likes of the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker (a fellow MK11 DLC offering and a character often voiced by none other than Vader’s own onscreen son, Mark Hamill). Only time will tell if this petition becomes a reality, but it doesn’t seem likely.
