Anyone who uses YouTube on their Android phone knows how important the dark mode is, especially for those who watch in the night with lights off. Likewise, Google is always busy releasing updates that make using their apps, even more, better than before. That’s why when Google announced in July they would release the dark mode soon, the excitement showed by YouTube users was expected. But, August went by with no new update. This made the users feel Google didn’t stand to its words and they will not enjoy dark mode on YouTube, which just happens to be the most popular video app/site in the world.

The feature also is getting mix usage expectations. Some users need it so they can watch videos at night without stressing their eyes while others just like to see white on dark background.

Now that the dark mode is out, you must be thinking let’s go to settings and switch on dark mode. Well, it’s not that simple. Even on our Pixel 2 XL Android 9 Pie phone, the cache had to be cleared in order to allow the dark mode to appear. And for that, you need to go to settings — Storage — Movie & TV Apps — YouTube — Clear Cache. After this tap on your profile picture and again go to Settings — General — Toggle Dark Mode On. Generally, it should be the second option on the list.

In case, the dark mode option is not visible yet on your phone, don’t worry, just try after few hours. Eventually, it will appear. Yes, make sure you are using Youtube 13.35.51 or higher version. If not, then these instructions will not work.
