Danny DeVito is Geralt of Rivia’s father Vesemir from The Witcher in a cool piece of fan art. The popular Netflix fantasy series about a man who hunts monsters has generated a lot of buzz in a post Game of Thrones era.

Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) is a mutant who once was human and now has no emotions beyond a desire to hunt monsters and make money. Geralt quickly becomes embroiled in the affairs of humans that are far more evil than the monsters he hunts. The Witcher weaves Geralt’s adventures with a powerful witch Yennefer and princess Ciri. The three characters destinies are intertwined but Geralt’s family origins remained a relative mystery beyond the reveal in the season finale that his mother abandoned him on the road. Geralt’s father in the show adaptation remains a relative mystery beyond his name Vesemir. The source material however, has plenty of backstory for Vesemir that the show itself could potentially draw from for future seasons. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has said she has the show already planned out until at least season seven.

Artistic fan mparish_art rendered the great Danny DeVito in the role of Vesemir in a fantastic piece of fan artwork. It’s nearly impossible not to hear DeVito starting off what would likely be a hilarious anecdote with, “So I started slashin right?” Check out the cool fan artwork and the funny caption below.

Danny DeVito himself may have yet to comment on the cool artwork/casting idea, but fans were intrigued by the idea nonetheless. Mark Hamill was also rendered in fan art form as Vesemir. (And hilariously responded that he had no idea who the character was but he did want to play him.) More than likely Vesemir will be introduced somehow in the second season (especially after Geralt cried out his father’s name after hearing Vesemir’s voice in a hallucination the first season’s finale)

The Witcher’s first season prevailed against poor critical reviews and won the hearts of fans new and old everywhere, quickly becoming one of Netflix’s most in-demand streaming shows. The program has been liked to Game of Thrones but it’s really quite an unfair comparison. While both shows do exist in a realm of fantasy where magic thrives, dragons live and power struggles never burn out, The Witcher has such an intriguing cast of characters that makes it stand on its own feet as a compelling story. (The Witcher also has a completed collection of source material.) Although The Witcher’s  first season did come complete with a rather confusing non-linear timeline, that will apparently be smoothed out when season two premieres sometime in 2021. While Vesemir’s casting remains yet to be announced, more than likely the character will be making his way to the show one way or the other. With such a positive outburst of fan support and a wealth of source material to draw from, The Witcher will likely be around for many seasons.
