Cuphead is a notoriously difficult, beautiful, and absolutely charming game for players that have experience with platform boss battles. The 1930s/40s art style, jazz music, and insanely difficult gameplay all work to remind players of the beginning of animation and video games. The art is reminiscent of old Loony Toons and Disney movies, while the gameplay is as impossible as the old Lion King game for Sega Genesis. This game is an absolute must-have for players who want a challenge and run a low risk of breaking controllers when angry.

With the latest update to Cuphead (update 1.2), players are introduced to more options than ever before. Update 1.2 has given players a lot of quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to choose between Cuphead or Mugman in the solo campaign. Additionally, players are now provided fully animated cutscenes. These cutscenes shine more light on the wonderfully done art style and help players immerse themselves even further into the world of Cuphead. However, the creators added a nice little addition with this new update: three more impossible bosses have been introduced for players to test their skills against.

Although it is still unclear how many secret bosses now reside in Cuphead, there are definitively at least three new bosses for players to face up against. One new boss battle per island in the beginning of the game has been added into the world of Cuphead. Moreover, these battles are not related to the boss fights that are slated for the new DLC add-on. The new battles are totally free for all players and can be found on the standard islands of the game. However, reaching these battles can be a little tricky. Here are a few of the steps to help reach these secret battles. It should also be noted that there are more ways to get into these new boss battles than what is listed. This is just an outline for a few sure-fire ways to get into these secret fights.

Little Radish vs. Cuphead

The little Radish is probably the easiest to get. Players will encounter an opportunity to fight this new boss fairly early in the game.

When in the game, head to Isle #1. Players will want to battle The Root Pack, one of the first boss battles players encountered when starting the game. During the battle, defeat the Potato but leave the Onion alone. Try to focus all attacks on the Potato. After a while, the Onion will disappear and an angry little Radish will show up in the final phase of the battle alongside the Carrot. Defeat both of these bosses to move to the next level.

Luckily enough, the Radish only has one attack. Immediately after coming out of the ground, the Radish spins across the level like a top while Chauncey Chantenay attacks as usual. However, in Expert Mode, the Radish has a higher top speed and acceleration. Additionally, he jumps out quicker at players. So be wary of any Radish attacks.

Puphead vs. Cuphead

For the next big boss battle, players will progress through the game and land themselves on Isle #2. Here, players will face off with Djimmi the Great, a genie with a bone to pick with Cuphead.

Players will engage with Djimmi the Great as usual. It’s not Djimmi the Great brings a sarcophagus that players should start changing how to engage with Djimmi. During this round, players should transform the Cuphead’s airplane into its smallest form. Djimmi will reveal a Puppet Cuphead (or Puphead, for short) that fights alongside him until the end of the battle.

Puphead moves horizontally around. He walks in the air before releasing his finger and proceeding to shoot two lines of bullets at players. These bullets follow an almost vertical line, making them a little easier to avoid when necessary. To add insult to injury, when Puphead shoots, players can hear Djjimmi laughing.

Cuphead vs. Sally Stageplay’s Deceased Husband

The final battle can be found on Isle #3. It’s fairly easy to initiate and even easier for players to find. However, it’s worth mentioning that this secret boss is a little more morbid than previous secret bosses have been. Players will be looking for Sally Stageplay, a girl who just wants to perform.

During the first phase of the battle, ignore Sally’s attacks completely. Instead, parry of the heart-kisses to make it onto the Cherb Angel Platforms. These platforms can be found on the left and right corners of the arena. Stand on the Cherub until a cracking sound effect starts to play. Once the sound starts, move to the other side of the arena and stand on the opposing Cherub Angel. Both platforms should collapse. This will cause the entire stage to collapse and crush Sally’s husband to be in the background. Continue the battle against Sally as usual. Towards the end of the battle (somewhere in the second-to-last/last phase), Sally’s recently deceased husband will join the battle.

Sally’s paramour will appear as a blue angel. He attacks alongside Sally, sending out Cherub Angels to throw balls of stage prop fire at Cuphead. Although his attacks alone are fairly easy to avoid, they can be difficult when combined with Sally Stageplay’s constant bombardment of stage prop weather. Although this seems silly, the stage props are thrown by Sally and a little Cherub that can deal damage if players aren’t careful.

So far, these are the secret bosses that have been found. Although the update has been live for quite some time, that does not mean that Cuphead is all out of secrets. There are plenty of levels with items that seem out of place. These out of place items and platforms often serve as a trigger for a secret Cuphead excursion. Be sure to stand on all the platforms, touch all the buttons, and do all the things before calling this game complete! Hopefully, there will be more updates for the Cuphead franchise. More boss battles and cutscenes are always welcome!
