The hysterical Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a comedy-drama that includes bouts of musical numbers to add to the show’s incredible depth. It’s the story of a woman named Rebecca Bunch who drops her high-paying law job in New York City for a shot at love in California with an ex-boyfriend she had in high school named Josh.

The real drama begins when Rebecca moves to the small town of West Covina and realizes Josh has a girlfriend. From there, we’ve seen four amazing seasons of ups, downs, lies, and fails of epic proportions. Now that the series has ended, we’re taking a look at all of the premieres and finales and ranking them from worst (if that’s possible) to best.

JOSH JUST HAPPENS TO LIVE HERE - SEASON ONE, EPISODE ONE

I know this may be tough to accept but the first episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the least likable out of the eight. For starters, when we think about how amazing the other premieres and finales are, “Josh Just Happens To Live Here” is a simple introduction to the characters and what viewers can expect for the series.

We see Rebecca hating her life as she’s about to become a junior partner at her firm. But after she runs into her ex-boyfriend Josh on the streets of New York, she’s inspired to live a different life. She quits her job and moves to West Covina with nothing but her valuables and a mission on the brain: to date Josh.

I WANT TO BE HERE - SEASON FOUR, EPISODE ONE

At the end of season three, Rebecca is dealing with the shadow of her ex-boyfriend and stalker, Trent. In fear of Trent killing her new love Nathaniel, she pushes him off a balcony, which nearly kills him. With Trent in a coma in season four, Rebecca pleads guilty and we see her sent to a state penitentiary for a few weeks until more answers are found.

In classic Rebecca fashion, she’s starting to like jail thanks to its theater program, however, she’s released by the end of the episode because Trent finally woke up and took the blame for everything.

It’s not that this episode wasn’t good–because it is—but it shows Rebecca in her classic ‘whiny’ attitude, which begins to annoy Valencia, especially.

WHERE IS JOSH’S FRIEND? - SEASON TWO, EPISODE ONE

At the beginning of season two, Rebecca got her wish: Josh broke up with Valencia and slept with Rebecca. As usual, though, things go downhill after Rebecca says crazy things that make Josh rethink what he’s done.

In the meantime, Josh is also living with Rebecca and is fighting off the urge to get too serious with her due to feeling rushed into it. Over at Whitefeather & Associates, Paula no longer feels Josh and Rebecca are endgame and makes Rebecca sign a document stating Paula can’t interfere with her love life anymore.

JOSH’S EX-GIRLFRIEND WANTS REVENGE - SEASON THREE, EPISODE ONE

At the end of season two, Josh leaves poor Rebecca at the altar. And while she’s devastated and embarrassed, she does what she does best: gets revenge.

In season three’s premiere, Rebecca makes her comeback at work with a complete makeover. She’s more beautiful, powerful, and confident than ever. Meanwhile, Paula is trying to rebuild her marriage with Scott, and Rebecca is creating plans to burn Josh Chan’s identity to the ground by a fake sex tape.

It’s this kind of episode that makes us all love Rebecca’s crazy, smart mind while also hiding behind our couch cushions out of fear.

NATHANIEL IS IRRELEVANT - SEASON THREE, EPISODE 13

The season three finale was filled with suspense and anxiety. Rebecca is a mess because she feels Trent is continuing to stalk her. After calling their relationship off, he decides the healthy thing to do is to focus on his relationship with Mona and move in together.

While this upsets Rebecca, she ultimately respects his decision and doesn’t attend their housewarming party (because she wasn’t invited). However, Rebecca does show up to Nathaniel’s place because Trent was planning on hurting Nathaniel. To save his life, Rebecca pushes Trent off the balcony, practically killing him. We also see Heather about to give birth to Darryl’s baby, a moment fans had been waiting for.

PAULA NEEDS TO GET OVER JOSH - SEASON ONE, EPISODE 18

By the end of season one, we see Rebecca backing off from Josh and Valencia and focusing on a new, unintentional relationship with Greg. Greg is one of Josh’s best friends and their connection brought shock to both Paula and Josh.

When Rebecca finds herself in the hospital from an undetected UTI, Paula’s anger towards Rebecca shone brightly. This makes Rebecca realize that it’s not her who needs to get over Josh, it’s Paula. She became so obsessed with the games and the chase that she feared Rebecca dating Greg would ruin it all. However, things turn completely on their head when Greg gets super drunk, Josh breaks up with Valencia, and Rebecca and Josh leave together. This episode brought so much suspense.

CAN JOSH TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH - SEASON TWO, EPISODE 18

In the final episode of season two, Josh and Rebecca’s wedding is a few days away. Oddly enough, Valencia is planning it for them, both of Rebecca’s parents are in town, and everything was going smoothly. Things were different for Josh, though.

He began having doubts and went to Father Brah for help. After speaking to him, Josh realized he wanted a life as a priest and left Rebecca at the altar. It was heartbreaking and demoralizing — a moment that almost made Rebecca jump off a cliff. It’s here we also learn more about Trent and an ex-boyfriend (a Harvard professor) of Rebecca’s that had his life ruined after dating her.

I’M IN LOVE - SEASON FOUR, EPISODE 17

While it’s hard to choose which premiere and finale of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the best, season four’s finale “I’m In Love” was one of the best.

As the final series finale, fans were hoping to get clarity on Rebecca’s next chapter in life. She goes on three dates with Josh, Greg, and Nathaniel and tells them all they’re not “the one.” They all go off to find a more fulfilling life after meeting her. Likewise, after years of deep reflection, Rebecca realizes she may have gone to California because of Josh, but all the people she met there became her family and part of her journey for self-reflection and growth. She turns to music and finds a deep sense of passion and fans felt satisfied with how neatly wrapped up this finale was.
